Order Sons of Italy

Gala FAQ

Some Frequently Asked Questions about the Gala.

Where and when is the Gala?  The Gala is held on March 17, 2012 at the Winnipeg Convention Centre.
Who is "Sons of Italy?"  Sons of Italy is an organization devoted to the celebration of Italian heritage, community service and charitable good works.
Is this just another "rubber chicken" dinner?  Quite the contrary!  Great food is always a hallmark of any Sons of Italy event. This year we will feature:
  • Antipasto and Italian salad,
  • Manicotti,
  • Prime beef entree from the Executive Chef of the Winnipeg Convention Centre, (with a salmon alternative),
  • Premium wines are paired perfectly to the meal,
  • Espresso and Pastry Bar
Is this a fundraiser? This year's Gala will benefit the Winnipeg Harvest.  You will see the result right at the Gala -- we will present them with a large cheque (literally as well as figuratively) at the end of the evening, so help them carry on their wonderful and important work in Manitoba.
How can I pay?
We accept secure online payments.  Go to the order page and select what you wish to purchase, then proceed to the online checkout.  If you wish to pay by Visa or Mastercard, click to pay by credit card.  If you wish to pay by American Express or PayPal, click on "PayPal Express".
Who is the Keynote Speaker?
After 25 annual Gala dinners featuring a vast array of speakers, in 2012 we are trying something different.  There will be no keynote speaker.  We have cut the speaker (and all greetings from politicians) and replaced them with an evening of Los Vegas style entertainment.  Singer Steve Lippia will be doing a 60 minute show, backed by the 16 piece Ron Paley Big Band.
Who is Steve Lippia?
Steve Lippia is a singer with extraordinary talent.  He has mastered the standards of yesterday and is often compared to Frank Sinatra for his smooth style and voice.  He will be performing a Los Vegas style show, with a 16 piece orchestra.  When Steve steps into the spotlight at the Gala your toes will be tapping, but he will knock your socks off!
Who is the Ron Paley Big Band? Pianist, electric bassist, and composer, Ron Paley formed the Ron Paley Big Band in 1976 after playing with the big bands of Buddy Rich and Woody Herman, with whom he recorded two CD’s and played on a Frank Sinatra album. He has recorded two big band albums and one trio album.

For the SOI Gala, Ron will be bringing a 16 piece band to back up singer Steve Lippia, and later for everyone to dance to.
