It is my sincere pleasure to welcome each of you to the Sons of Italy, Garibaldi Lodge, 31st annual Gala Dinner. Tonight, as part of our extended Italian family, we will share a meal, laughter, and our common goal of philanthropy.
For the past 30 years, The Garibaldi Lodge, along with its sisters at La Lupa di Roma, have been funding and promoting Italian culture and language throughout Manitoba. The organization was originally established in the early 1900’s to help Italian immigrants settle into their new lives after reaching North American shores. With this job long since completed, the focus has changed from helping Italians, to helping the greater community; medical research, hospitals, education, inner-city poverty, food banks, and immigrants, are just some of the areas of support the organization has made a difference in.
This year we are proud to be able to support, the Holy Rosary Parish and its “Outreach Project”. The Holy Rosary, which is a pillar of the Italian Community, is located in Osborne Village and provides for the needy and homeless. Holy Rosary is very active in the integration and settlement of new immigrants and refugees.
I would also like to congratulate and thank this year’s Canadian Italian Business and Professionals Association award winner, Mr. Peter Mignacca, President and CEO of Subterranean (Manitoba) Inc., not only for his outstanding accomplishments in business, but also for a lifetime’s worth of giving and support to our Community.
In closing I would like to thank all of you, our sponsors and our long-time partner, RBC Royal Bank for the continued support you have shown us over the years.
Tom De Nardi
